Chantelle bras are designed to last, but, like most things, not to last forever. Bras do a job, but those we keep in heavy rotation eventually stop working the way they are supposed to, even with proper care. On top of that, things change over time. Our bodies, our size, our preferences, and we need to allow our lingerie drawer to catch up. Check out our simple Q&A below to determine what survives the bra drawer edit and what may need a refresh.

Q&A

  • How can I tell if my bra needs to be replaced?

Once you start adjusting your bra constantly throughout the day, pulling things down, yanking things up, it may be time to move on. With the band amounting to 70-80% of a bra’s support, when it starts riding up on your back, even on the tightest hook, it’s no longer anchored properly to your body, and the support level is not where it started. Similarly, if the straps are falling off of your shoulders all day, they are not working properly - another sign that you may need to retire your bra. More obvious wear and tear, like a poking underwire or ripped seam, also means it’s time to say goodbye.

  • How many bras should I have in my rotation to prolong their life?

Having a minimum of 3 basic bras in rotation, one to wear, one to wash, and one to spare, means you won’t overwork any one style, allowing for proper rest days for each. This does not include special occasion pieces (your date night only styles), solution lingerie (strapless), or sport.

  • How should I wash my bras to prolong their life?

Hand washing your bras in cold water with a delicate detergent is ideal, but if you have to machine wash, stick with the delicate detergent and use a lingerie wash bag on the gentle cycle. Air drying your bras is crucial, though, as dryer heat breaks down fabrics more quickly. Our full care guide can be found here.

  • How long should a bra last?

Your bras should last about 6-12 months, though this will vary depending on how many bras you have in rotation and if washing/wearing suggestions are being followed. With the proper care, Chantelle bras can remain like new for up to 50 washes.
