Does My Bra Fit?: An Expert’s Checklist to Check Your Size

Once you start adjusting your bra constantly throughout the day, pulling things down, yanking things up, it may be time to move on. With the band amounting to 70-80% of a bra’s support, when it starts riding up on your back, even on the tightest hook, it’s no longer anchored properly to your body, and the support level is not where it started. Similarly, if the straps are falling off of your shoulders all day, they are not working properly - another sign that you may need to retire your bra. More obvious wear and tear, like a poking underwire or ripped seam, also means it’s time to say goodbye.
Having a minimum of 3 basic bras in rotation, one to wear, one to wash, and one to spare, means you won’t overwork any one style, allowing for proper rest days for each. This does not include special occasion pieces (your date night only styles), solution lingerie (strapless), or sport.
Hand washing your bras in cold water with a delicate detergent is ideal, but if you have to machine wash, stick with the delicate detergent and use a lingerie wash bag on the gentle cycle. Air drying your bras is crucial, though, as dryer heat breaks down fabrics more quickly. Our full care guide can be found here.
Your bras should last about 6-12 months, though this will vary depending on how many bras you have in rotation and if washing/wearing suggestions are being followed. With the proper care, Chantelle bras can remain like new for up to 50 washes.
